Lambda Alpha International, formerly the International Fraternity of Lambda Alpha, was established on February 23, 1931 at Northwestern University by a group of students of land economics and real estate as an honorary professional fraternity to foster the study of land economics. The first chapter, the Ely Chapter in Chicago, was named after Dr. Richard T. Ely for his role as "Father of Land Economics."
